SOUTH BLOOMFIELD NEWS

Jan Land

South Bloomfield United Methodist Church sent me a note all was cancelled this
week because of the weather and I know many of you it was hard to miss your Ash
Wednesday Service.  I know this will be published after the fact, but Pat VonIns
sent this little note out with the cancellations.   Perhaps during those early
evening hours we might take a few minutes and look closely at ourselves.
Actually, that's what Lent is all about, taking a good look at our lives under
God's microscope.  Maybe we'll see some bad habits and decide to get rid of
them.  Or we might decide to develp some new habits, plant some new seeds, seeds
of love.  The greatest commandment is : Love God and love each other.  1
Corithians 13 is called the "Love Chapter".  In that chapter you'll find "love"
described: Love is patient, kind, doesn't envy, doesn't boast, protective, not
proud, not rude, not easily angered, keeps no record of wongs, does not delight
in evil, but is happy with truth.  Love trusts, (believes) in the other person,
always hopes, and never gives up.  Did you notice that in the abouve list there
are no warm and fuzzy feelings. Love is a decision you make.  I once read of a
man who told his bride to be that if there ever came a time after they were
married that what they felt for each other on their wedding day had failed, he
would still love her.  That's how God loves you, evey when wer are not loveable,
God will alwyas love us.  Now if that doesn't light your fire, your wood's wet!

Happy Anniversary to Jimm and Debbie Hoffman, Richard and Connie DeWeese, Junior
and Jewell Roese, Bill and Kay Toole and all of you with special days this
month.  Happy Birthday to Jami McComas, Damon Wilson, Curt Logan.

Congratulations to Janette Fausnaugh who I heard had an A from Columbus State in
her studies.  Yea for you Janette and Good Luck in all you do.  Hope you get
those Spanish Classes you want to do.

Upcoming events that hopefully will be able to take place will be Lenten Bible
Study beginning Feb. 24th at 7 PM at SBUMC.  Feb. 25th Village Chapel
:Celebrating Seniors" you're invited to attend the lunches each month (last
Thursday). A short program follows with Ann Freeman from CIrcleville Therapy.
You can stay and play board games, card games and have your blood pressure
checked by the Fire Dept. Call Alice Woolever at 983-2875 to place your
reservation.  They need Euchre Players.
On March 6th from 5 to 7 PM at the South Bloomfield Rick Brown Memorial VFW Post
is the "WInter Blahs" party and will have a new look.  The Youth Group will have
a bake sale along with this event.
Also, don't forget we are still in need of approx. 10 dozen plastic Easter Eggs
to complete are Resurrection Eggs project.  You can call the Church at 983-2110
for any information concerning their events and donations that are needed.  I
hope the snow is gone in time for an Easter Egg Hunt.

Food Pantry

Jane Lynch would like to thank everyone for their support of the Ashville Food
Pantry.  I try to send cards to those who organize food drives, donate cash, etc
and I apologize if I have missed anyone.  The past year was a challenge at times
to meet the needs of the community and without your donations we could not do
what we do.  You can drop off non perishabls anytime on the back porch of the
pantry and we appreciate anything you give.  We have an urgent need at the
present time for canned meats (tuna, chicken, etc.) and cornbread mix.  Our new
Director Linda Cummings is doing a great job and can answer any questions you
may have.

As Jane mentioned above the need is so great and if you can only share just one
item it helps.  Please keep this pantry going and stocked and don't let anyone
go to bed hungry here in Pickaway County.

I attended our Ash Wednesday Service last night at Faith United Methodist Church
with several of the women in my little village.  It was a wonderful service and
as Pat mentioned above a time to make some changes and look at ourselves to
clean up those things in our lives that keeps our mind cluttered. A time to
clean from the inside out.  I think that is what is always so wonderful at
Easter in Ohio when the daffodils peek through and you know there is renewal of
life with all.

I hate it that the snow keeps coming and I love what Mary Haddox Trimble had
posted on Facebook saying she felt like she was in a Snow Globe and somebody
wouldn't keep shaking it.  I loved the humor and had to visualize that must be
really true.  My little sister seems to be going bonkers with the snow days and
having her lovely little boys home way too much.  Someone sent me an email with
a snowman in a noose so I know cabin fever is growing across all of Ohio and
most of the country.  I am still running around in long sleeve, long pants
jogging suits and have had to wear a winter coat on several occasions.  This
past Sunday I even resorted to my leather gloves coming and going to church.  I
also loved the sign on a church board in Ohio that said whoever is praying for
snow please stop.   So much for global warming although I saw where they were
having to truck and fly snow in for the Olympics so here good old America is
stealing the Canandian Snow.  We get their geese and now their snow what's
next??

That's all for me today.  Going to a Roaring 20's Party here in the little
village tonight.  Got my outfit ready what started out with a headband is now a
full hollywood attire.  It should be fun and should brighten my mood since my
tears fell earlier because I washed my new Valentine gift, my IPOD!  So tomorrow
it will be back to the Apple Store so my hubby won't have to see me shed anymore
crocodile tears from breaking my new toy.  Only me could go do a great workout
come home clean the car and end up washing my little music box.  I think
sometimes he thinks a child would be less expensive.  Well have to go get my
beads on for the gala event.  Take care and be safe in your travels with all the
bad roads and weather.

You can reach me at jjtheba1203@aol.com or 614 419 9835 and Jackie can be
reached at wcarl2@columbus.rr.com or 954 8159.  Thanks for all your nosey news
we so appreciate all. I leave you with 1 Thessalonians 4:12 NIV, "Set your mind
on things above, not on early things."   Pondering why this verse maybe I need
to rethink the IPOD tears!!
Hugs Jan

BABY JAYNE

Beth and Jayne are home now and doing well. came home late Sunday afternoon.
Baby Jayne Elizabeth Kirk born 2/12/2010 8:15 p.m. 7 pounds 4 ounces 20inches
long. I’d list all the grandparents but I don’t know them all and I don‘t want
to hurt someones feelings, but Beth’s parents are Jill Gerchy (Kenny Costlow) of
Ashville and Joe Gerchy of S. Bloomfield. I can’t wait to see and hold her. Beth
was one of my float royalty several times in different divisions.

WEATHER

To the street workers of our village, thanks for a great job in snow removal.
Old Bill said that each time it snows, it reminds him of the days he was
stationed at Rickenbacker (Lockbourne Air Force Base) back in 1962 thru 1966.
One of his responsibilities during winter was snow removal from the runways,
taxiways and base streets. He said that he didn’t do much in the streets. Most
of the time he was out on the runways, taxiways and plane parking areas. The
snow removal equipment they had on base was: large broom (to keep the center
lights clear on the runways), large rollover snow plows and snow throwers. To
take care of the base streets, we had dump trucks with plows and salt spreaders.
Another thing Old Bill says is that during that time the base never shut down
due to winter weather conditions. Something, I’m sure, he and his buddies were
proud of. A lot of memories and great times he always says.

SPECIAL BIRTHDAY

Today our baby (Gina) has a birthday. It seems like only yesterday I was in the
hospital in PA with the five pound black haired baby girl the nurses loved. Time
flies

OLYMPICS

I hope all of you are watching the Olympics on TV. I love the skating (speed and
figure), snow boarding and many of the others.

RICK BROWN MEMORIAL VFW POST 7941

I missed Rosie’s chicken dinner and the Valentine steak dinner last week as I am
still on probation with my knee. I get to sit all day (whoopee), Little Widget
had no more little Wiggles surgery, so she has been sleeping on my lap. There
will be a Fish Fry from 5-9  PM on the 26th and now Micky will be doing all the
Saturday morning breakfasts. The omelets are so big it takes a hungry trucker to
finish one!

Condolences to Phyllis Carter, Mark Baughman and all their family members.

Happy birthday to Rosie Roese and many, many more. Rosie was a God send when my
mom was ill as was Johnda Pettibone.

Let us not forget the work the Cooties do for the VA hospital. Their motto is
“Keep them smiling in beds of white”.

That’s all for now as JJ is making me put the petal to the metal to finish. Just
remember to be extra careful in this wonderful white weather and be kind to one
another. This weather is a great opportunity to do something for a person that
might need a path shoveled, an errand run, etc.
